U4 Mini Kickers

SVU’s Mini-Kickers program is an “Active Start” to Soccer introducing basic physical, technical, social, and psychological objectives. This program will pursue these objectives through curriculum-based stage-appropriate activities/games. This 8-session program could be used to get a young player interested and excited about soccer!

  • Financial Aid

    The purpose of the SVU Financial Aid program is to provide financial support for families with the greatest need so that they may participate in SVU programs without financial hardship. Financial aid is available in the fall and spring for qualifying families in the Recreation, Challenge and Travel programs based on demonstrated need and SVU’s ability to fund the assistance.

    Financial Aid Application and Approval

    All families requesting financial aid must complete a Financial Aid Form. All financial aid requests will be reviewed by staff and will be kept confidential. Applicants for financial aid MUST APPLY EACH TAX YEAR (April 15-April 15), with complete and current Information. The level of aid for which an applicant qualifies can be requested for programs throughout the year.  However, each financial aid request must be approved for each program.  Each financial aid request is subject to available funds. Any financial aid awards given will apply only to the current program registration.

    Completed Financial Aid Forms may be emailed to the SVU Support Team SVUinfo@shenvalleysoccer.com, mailed or dropped off at the SVU Office (SVU Soccer:  735 East Market Street, Unit C Harrisonburg, VA 22801)

    Financial Aid Coverage

    Financial aid is applied to registration fees only. It does not apply to uniform or other equipment expenses or any additional tournament fees or expenses.

    The amount of financial aid provided may vary by family. The amount is determined based on participation in public assistance programs (Medicaid, Free/Reduced Lunch Program, etc.), or by documenting income within established limits, as well as the total amount of aid offered to all other participants during the season.

    The aid approved on that form will only apply to the current program you applied for. Any aid requested for additional programs (camps, clinics, additional training, etc.) will need to be submitted in writing. Submitting a new application is not necessary within the same tax year.  Not all programs are eligible for financial aid.

    Coaching in SVU Recreation League

    Head Coach (Recreation)
    The recreation head coach is responsible for managing team practices and games. The coach is expected to follow and implement the curriculum for the specific age group assigned. The Head Coach can expect to volunteer 2-3 hours per week from September through October and April through May. Practices are held one night per week in your home area with a game at Monger Fields on Saturdays. The coach is required to pass a background check, complete the Virginia Youth Soccer Association (VYSA) Safe Sport Training and participate in pre-season coach training.

    Assistant Coach (Recreation)
    The recreation assistant coach is responsible for assisting the head coach in running team practices and games. The assistant coach is expected to follow and implement the curriculum for the specific age group assigned. If needed the Assistant Coach may act as the head coach for a team. The assistant coach can expect to volunteer 2-3 hours per week from September through October and April through May. Practices are held one night per week in your home area with a game at Monger Fields on Saturdays.

    The assistant coach is required to pass a background check, complete the Virginia Youth Soccer Association (VYSA) Safe Sport Training and strongly encouraged to participate in pre-season coach training.
