The SVU Recreation programs are offered in the Fall and Spring and provides the opportunity for young players to develop basic soccer skills and teamwork in a stress-free and fun environment. SVU is a long-time advocate of small-sided games, which promote player development across all age groups. This program is inclusive and is not based on results. This program is available for all

Important Information
The Recreation program season consists of one (1) practice session during the week and one (1) game on Saturday (7 games guaranteed) over eight (8) weeks each in both the Fall and the Spring. Practices are held in 4 areas on the city/county. Players have the choice to be on a team in any high school district as it does not need to be the same area of residence. All games are played at Monger Park.
The Recreation program is coordinated by SVU staff, but relies heavily on volunteers to keep costs down for all. Volunteers are needed to oversee age divisions and prepare schedules, coach (head and assistant), support parent and other game day roles. As you register your child, please consider a role that would be right for you.

Registration Late Fee: $95 for 2024-25
Request for a refund and to withdraw from the Recreation program must be made through an e-mail or written notice by September 14, 2024. Refunds will be issued less a $20.00 processing fee. Refunds will be sent in the form of a check and will take about 3 weeks to be processed.
What Your Player Will Need:
• All players must wear shin guards for all practices and games
• Clothing appropriate for the weather and safety
• Water for every game and practice
• Safe footwear for playing soccer – (soccer cleats are not required but recommended)
• Appropriate size soccer ball
o U8 use a size 3 soccer ball
o U10 & U12 use a size 4 soccer ball
o U15 & older use a size 5 soccer ball -

Equipment & Uniforms
SVU RECREATION JERSEY KIT –
The deadline for ordering jerseys on line has past. If you still need a jersey, you will need to come by the SVU office during open hours to purchase one in person.
This jerseys will be an additional $24.00 fee. SVU will continue with our 2 Jersey system for games in Fall 2024 – Spring 2025 seasons. If you player played for SVU recreation in any season of 2023 or Spring 2024 you will NOT need to purchase new uniforms for Fall 2024.
Once your order is placed, you can pick up your jersey at the SVU Office – 735 East Market St. Suite C. Harrisonburg Va. 22801.
Uniforms will NOT be available to be picked up at the field.

Financial Aid
The purpose of the SVU Financial Aid program is to provide financial support for families with the greatest need so that they may participate in SVU programs without financial hardship. Financial aid is available in the fall and spring for qualifying families in the Recreation, Challenge and Travel programs based on demonstrated need and SVU’s ability to fund the assistance.
Financial Aid Application and Approval
All families requesting financial aid must complete a Financial Aid Form. All financial aid requests will be reviewed by staff and will be kept confidential. Applicants for financial aid MUST APPLY EACH TAX YEAR (April 15-April 15), with complete and current Information. The level of aid for which an applicant qualifies can be requested for programs throughout the year. However, each financial aid request must be approved for each program. Each financial aid request is subject to available funds. Any financial aid awards given will apply only to the current program registration.
Completed Financial Aid Forms may be emailed to the SVU Support Team SVUinfo@shenvalleysoccer.com, mailed or dropped off at the SVU Office (SVU Soccer: 735 East Market Street, Unit C Harrisonburg, VA 22801)

Not all programs are eligible for financial aid.

The recreation head coach is responsible for managing team practices and games. The coach is expected to follow and implement the curriculum for the specific age group assigned. The Head Coach can expect to volunteer 2-3 hours per week from September through October and April through May. Practices are held one night per week in your home area with a game at Monger Fields on Saturdays. The coach is required to pass a background check, complete the Virginia Youth Soccer Association (VYSA) Safe Sport Training and participate in pre-season coach training.Assistant Coach (Recreation)
